This class includes low-growing perennial grasslands on inland saline soils influenced by trampling or grazing. It is found on slightly less saline soils and drier sites than the annual halophytic vegetation of Crypsietea aculeatae and Thero-Salicornietea. In the local microtopography of well-developed, zoned saline communites, these perennial grasslands are usually confined to slightly elevated habitats.
