The class Mulgedio-Aconitetea includes tall-forb, tall-grass, tall-fern and deciduous-shrub vegetation occurring mainly in the subalpine belt, where it is confined to leeward habitats with deep, moist and nutrient-rich soils. The communities of this class usually occur in naturally treeless habitats along mountain brooks, on lower slopes and on avalanche tracks. In winter, plants are protected by pronounced snow cover, which acts as a an important moisture supplement after the spring thaw. The Mulgedio-Aconitetea vegetation is common in many European and southern Siberian mountain ranges.
