The dominant species of this association, Potamogeton alpinus, has submerged, and in some cases also natant leaves. It occurs mainly in brooks, upper sections of rivers, fishponds and flooded loam pits, usually in a depth of 20–60 cm. Its habitats are usually in an advanced stage of terrestrialization. The water is oligotrophic to mesotrophic, in some cases also eutrophic, but always clear. This association is scattered in the mid-altitude areas of the Czech Republic, but in recent decades it has been on the decline on many sites due to eutrophication.
