This vegetation type is dominated by the submerged species Myriophyllum spicatum, which has a broad ecological range, but it is most common in places with regular disturbance or in early successional stages. It is one of the most common aquatic associations in the middle and lower river courses and it also frequently occurs in flooded sand pits, fishponds, oxbows and channels. Water can be turbid; it is usually 20–100 cm deep, but M. spicatum tolerates the drying out of its habitat for some period in summer. This association is common across the lowland and mid-altitude areas of the Czech Republic.
