This vegetation type is dominated by Ceratophyllum submersum, a submerged aquatic macrophyte, which produces large amounts of biomass and often fills in the entire water column. It is found in shallow still water bodies that are well-insolated and warm in summer, e.g. small fishponds, oxbows, alluvial pools and flooded sand pits. The water in these habitats is mesotrophic to naturally eutrophic and usually rich in calcium. This association occurs in lowland and warm colline areas of the Czech Republic.
