This class includes oak forests dominated by Quercus petraea agg. or Q. robur occurring on nutrient-poor acidic soils. The shrub layer is usually sparse and the herb layer species-poor, consisting of acidotolerant species. These forests occur either on shallow soils over poorly weathering acidic rocks or on deeper, leached soils in precipitation-rich areas.
