The alliance Calamagrostion villosae includes subalpine tall grasslands mostly dominated by Calamagrostis villosa, and in places also by Deschampsia cespitosa and Molinia caerulea. This vegetation is confined to nutrient-poorer and more acidic soils than other vegetation types of the class Mulgedio-Aconitetea. In the Czech Republic these species-poor grasslands occur above the timberline in the Krkonoše, Hrubý Jeseník and Králický Sněžník Mountains. Calamagrostion villosae vegetation has also been documented from other European mountains, such as the Alps, Carpathians and Urals.
