These grasslands are dominated by Festuca rubra agg. They occur on nutrient-poor, moderately dry soils which are disturbed by erosion on steep slopes, by grazing animals or by burning. Most of these stands were used as pastures, but some were also occasionally mown for hay. This association usually occurs in smaller patches rather than in extensive stands. It is distributed in submontane and montane belts of all mountain ranges of the Czech Republic.
