This bog community is remarkable on account of its tall Sphagnum fuscum hummocks, occupied by small shrubs of Calluna vulgaris and Vaccinium uliginosum. In the Czech Republic, stands of this association are poor in boreo-arctic species, of which Oxycoccus microcarpus is often the only species present. Species composition is thus similar to that of the Sphagnion magellanici communities. This vegetation occupies extensive areas only in the Šumava Mountains, but rare and fragmentary stands are also found in the mountain ranges of the northern Czech Republic.
