This alliance includes well-insolated spring vegetation supplied by slowly moving water with acidic to neutral reaction and low calcium content. This vegetation type is characterized by its well-developed moss layer. The herb layer is dominated by species of the genus Montia. The range of this alliance includes western and central Europe, where it occurs on open springs below the timberline.
