The class Juncetea trifidi includes natural alpine grasslands on siliceous bedrocks of the mountains of Europe and Siberia. It is mostly dominated by tussock-forming graminoids, e.g. Juncus trifidus and Nardus stricta in oceanic regions of Europe, Carex curvula in the Alps and the Southern Carpathians, Sesleria spp. in the Balkans and Festuca ovina in the Siberian mountains. These grasslands are often found to form mosaic with dwarf-shrub vegetation of the class Loiseleurio-Vaccinietea and snow-bed vegetation of the class Salicetea herbaceae. Vegetation of snow beds is very fragmentary in the Czech mountains: typical communities of the Salicetea herbaceae are lacking.
