This association includes short, often shrubby stands of Robinia pseudoacacia, usually up to 5 m tall. Drought-adapted shrubs such as Crataegus spp., Prunus spinosa and Rosa spp. are common. The herb layer is often species-rich and composed of species of dry grasslands and thermophilous oak forests. Melico-Robinietum occurs on south-facing slopes with outcrops of both acidic and calcareous rocks. Most of these stands originated through expansion of Robinia pseudoacacia from planted stands on deeper soils to adjacent dry grasslands. Most sites are found in deep valleys of Bohemian rivers and on volcanic hills in the České středohoří.
