This association includes stands dominated by Riccia rhenana, a submerged aquatic liverwort. Compared with R. fluitans, this species is less sensitive to eutrophication. This association accordingly occurs in more eutrophic water bodies such as alluvial pools, oxbows and fishponds. In the Czech Republic it is most common in lowland and colline areas.
