This association is dominated by Quercus petraea agg., less frequently by Q. robur, with a constant admixture of Pinus sylvestris. Its shrub layer is sparse and its herb layer is dominated by Vaccinium myrtillus and other dwarf shrubs such as Calluna vulgaris and Vaccinium vitis-idaea. It occurs on both shallow and deep, very nutrient-poor, often sandy soils developed over acidic bedrock. Some stands of this association developed as a result of historical forest use. In the Czech Republic these forests occur mainly in Bohemia.
