Association RBA03

Valeriano simplicifoliae-Caricetum flavae Pawłowski et al. 1960

new search

This association is vicarious to the Valeriano dioicae-Caricetum davallianae in the mountainous regions of the Western Carpathians, which are colder and less calcium-rich than the areas of distribution of the Carici flavae-Cratoneuretum filicini. The substrate is mostly shallow organic peat overlying a gley layer. The association occurs throughout the flysch zone of the Slovak, Polish and Ukrainian Carpathians. In the Czech Republic it occurs only fragmentarily. As in the Carici flavae-Cratoneuretum filicini association, Eriophorum latifolium frequently dominates. Scorpidium cossonii, a frequent dominant of the moss layer of this association in the Western Carpathians, occurs at only a few sites in the Czech Republic.
