Vegetation dominated by Butomus umbellatus occurs in fishponds, fish storage ponds, water reservoirs, small streams and lentic sections of large rivers. In cooler areas it is more abundant in still water bodies, while in warmer areas it occurs mainly in streams. However, these stands are rarely extensive along rivers with regulated water flow. Water table usually fluctuates, and if not, B. umbellatus­-dominated vegetation becomes overgrown by stands of tall reed species. This association occurs at scattered sites in lowlands and colline areas across the Czech Republic.
