This is structurally simple, species-poor vegetation of tiny, free-floating aquatic plants such as lemnids, aquatic ferns and liverworts. It occurs in different types of natural and artificial water bodies, including intermittent pools and puddles. It quickly regenerates after disturbance or if a water body has dried up. Individual plants spread quickly between different water bodies in the landscape with migrating waterfowl and in fishing nets.
