This association includes open to closed stands dominated by Geranium robertianum, developing on mesic to moderately dry, nutrient-rich, usually stony, but in some places also loamy soils. It can be found on the edges of forest roads, in fringes of nutrient-rich forests and scrub, at the bases of rock outcrops, on screes in quarries, in unmanaged parks, on wet building rubble, along railways and on walls. In the Czech Republic Epilobio-Geranietum is common especially in colline to submontane areas.
